Epiroc has celebrated a significant milestone with its strategic partner Pucobre, marking the delivery of five 65 t class Epiroc Minetruck MT65 S trucks to Pucobre’s facilities in Tierra Amarilla, located in Chile’s Atacama Region. This achievement represents a major step in Pucobre’s fleet renewal and modernisation strategy, positioning the company at the forefront of sustainable mining practices in the region. In total, 22 trucks are planned for delivery throughout 2026 and 2027. The new fleet will be deployed across Pucobre’s main underground copper mines: Punta del Cobre, Granate, and Mantos de Cobre.
The OEM highlights that the new MT65 S offers increased productivity and a strong focus on safety. It also provides enhanced comfort for operators, supporting more efficient and ergonomic work cycles. Each of these improvements is informed by advanced telemetry systems—technology that collects and transmits data in real time, allowing for continuous performance monitoring and optimisation. These systems enable operators and managers to make data-driven decisions and improve operational efficiency.
Epiroc expressed gratitude to Pucobre for their confidence and for including Epiroc in a ceremony that underscores their shared vision for modern, safe, and sustainable mining. The company remains committed to working with clients to deliver innovative solutions that advance and strengthen Chilean mining.
The order for these trucks was initially announced in July 2025. Including digital solutions, the contract was valued at approximately MSEK 235 (over US$26 million as of today) and was booked in the second quarter of 2025. Alongside the delivery of equipment, Epiroc is providing service and spare parts support.
The digital solutions ordered include Fleet+, Epiroc’s fleet management software, which enables operators to monitor equipment performance and track operational goals in real time via the My Epiroc interface. The package also features Fleet+ ShiftGoals, an add-on that provides visibility into machine performance and goal tracking. These tools are designed to reduce fuel consumption, improve fleet utilisation, and enhance operator safety. Additionally, Pucobre ordered Asset Health Information Service, which delivers high-frequency sensor data and alerts, integrated with the customer’s internal systems. This service supports advanced machine monitoring and performance tracking, helping ensure the health and reliability of the fleet.
According to Epiroc, the MT65 S is a high-capacity, automation-ready underground truck equipped with smart features designed to ensure productivity, safety, and reliability in large-scale underground mining and construction. The vehicle combines high ramp speeds with improved energy efficiency, which significantly boosts productivity while reducing fuel consumption and overall running costs.
The MT65 S is noted for its increased speeds—10% faster going up ramps and 18% faster downhill, depending on the operational context. These improvements are enabled by an updated axle ratio, advanced transmission, and optimised gear selection, ensuring gear shifts occur at the ideal moment both during ascent and descent. Epiroc also cites enhanced reliability, thanks to extended life of major components, a completely redesigned electrical system, and more protected locations for key components.
