Epiroc AB has secured a significant order for mining equipment from Mopani Copper Mines PLC in Zambia, a country where copper mining is a major contributor to the economy. Investments such as this are vital for sustaining growth and modernization in the sector, highlighting the importance of this deal for both companies and the broader industry.
Mopani Copper Mines has ordered a fleet of Epiroc’s Minetruck haulers and Scooptram loaders, including models such as the Minetruck MT436 and Minetruck MT42 S haulers as well as Scooptram ST14 S and Scooptram ST1030 loaders. These models are designed for efficient underground hauling and loading, ensuring safer and faster material transport. The equipment will be used to enhance production capacity at the Nkana and Mufulira mines, both established nearly a century ago. The order, valued at around US$20 million (MSEK 180), was booked in the first quarter of 2026, and Epiroc will also provide ongoing service and support for these machines.
Helena Hedblom, Epiroc’s President and CEO, commented on the partnership: “Epiroc has a long history of delivering equipment and services to Mopani Copper Mines. We look forward to continue supporting Mopani to optimise their operations, this time with our advanced mine trucks and loaders.” Delivery of the equipment has just begun and is expected to be completed by the end of the year, reflecting Epiroc’s ongoing commitment to supporting Zambia’s copper mining sector with innovative solutions.
Since 2014, Mopani Copper Mines PLC has invested in sinking and equipping three new shafts to modernise infrastructure at both Nkana and Mufulira mine sites, replacing structures dating back to the 1930s. These shafts—Syclinorium and Mindola Deeps at Nkana Mine in Kitwe, and the Henderson Shaft at Mufulira—along with the newly constructed Syclinorium Concentrator at Nkana, underscore the company’s commitment to ongoing innovation and expansion.
