K2 Gold, a Canada-based mineral exploration firm, has initiated drilling at its wholly owned Si2 Gold Project, located approximately 59km west of Tonopah, Nevada, USA. The site is positioned within the Walker Lane Trend and lies about 20km from Allegiant Gold’s Eastside deposit, which hosts reported resources of 1.4 million ounces of gold and 8.8 million ounces of silver.

The current drilling programme focuses on probing deeper targets across the property, following comprehensive technical studies and a reinterpretation of the site’s geological data. Recent findings have reclassified Si2 as a low-sulfidation epithermal gold system, whereas previous exploration activities only assessed surface-level features. This marks K2’s initial effort to investigate deeper zones where substantial gold mineralization is commonly observed in comparable systems.

The decision to launch this drilling initiative is underpinned by extensive scientific and technical evaluations, underscoring Si2’s untapped potential. Notably, the project shares several geological characteristics with AngloGold Ashanti’s Arthur Project. Through this effort, K2 aims to expedite discoveries at Si2 while continuing to advance its flagship Mojave Project.

According to K2 Gold President and CEO Anthony Margarit, “The commencement of this drill programme is a direct result of our technical team’s strength. Their work has fundamentally upgraded the Si2 geological model. We are now drilling the most compelling targets identified to date—testing both previously undrilled structures and the depths where our studies indicate the most productive levels of the Si2 epithermal system should lie. Si2 gives K2 a second, high-conviction discovery opportunity in one of the most proven gold districts in the US.”

The Si2 Project is accessible by road and consists of 118 lode claims managed under the Bureau of Land Management, spanning an area of 986 hectares.
