Michelin has introduced a new tyre engineered specifically to meet the high-performance demands of the latest generation of powerful mine and quarry wheel loaders. The MICHELIN Xtra Power L5** 26.5 R25 is designed to deliver both durability and productivity in extreme operating conditions, while also enhancing operator comfort.

Following the initial launch of the MICHELIN Xtra Power L5* 35/65 R33 in 2021, this new size further expands Michelin’s range of tyre solutions for loaders. According to Clifford de Jager, CES Technical Manager, Beyond Road – Mining, Construction, Material Handling at Michelin, “At Michelin, we continuously adapt and innovate our products to align with evolving machinery requirements. The MICHELIN Xtra Power L5 26.5 R25 offers reliable performance in challenging environments, delivering optimised load capacity and improved torque transmission with stability, comfort, and safety.”

Purpose-built for demanding applications, the tyre addresses various operational needs such as face work, block handling, and tasks that subject tyres to substantial stress and elevated speeds. In response to the trend toward larger vehicles with higher-capacity buckets, the MICHELIN Xtra Power L5** 26.5 R25 delivers up to an 18.5-tonne load capacity, representing a 23% increase over its predecessor, according to the company.

The development of this tyre incorporates an innovative structure featuring a curved design and enhanced support for rubber blocks, which helps reduce stress on the contact surface and maximises protection. Reinforced tread and shoulders provide additional resistance to damage, and a larger bead heel enhances torque transmission.

Utilising a new tread pattern and unique rubber compound, the MICHELIN Xtra Power L5** 26.5 R25 demonstrates superior robustness, enabling it to withstand abrasive and aggressive surfaces while facilitating versatile movement across stones, debris, and rock. These attributes contribute to increased machine productivity and a lower risk of rim slip, as the enlarged bead heel minimises premature wear.

Designed for retreading, this tyre allows fleet managers to maximise both utilisation and long-term cost efficiency. Operator comfort and safety remain central considerations in Michelin’s product design, with this model supporting pressures up to 7.5 bars—improving machine stability by 20% and providing greater comfort during intensive loading operations.
