Hanover, Germany – Continental’s ContiTech group sector has launched VersaFlex, a next-generation single-ply conveyor belt designed to deliver higher strength, improved flexibility, and increased uptime for above-ground mining operations.
The new product targets one of the mining industry’s most pressing priorities: maximizing operational efficiency while lowering total cost of ownership.
“VersaFlex is built around reliable performance that drives uptime and lowers total cost of ownership — the one thing our customers value most,” said Joe Cochran, Head of Product Management – Conveying Solutions, Industrial Solutions Americas, ContiTech. “With exceptional rip and tear resistance, a high-strength vulcanised splice, and a lightweight carcass, this belt demonstrates that we can deliver both strength and efficiency in a single-ply solution.”
Engineered for High-Performance Mining Operations
VersaFlex is designed for demanding above-ground mining environments, where conveyor reliability directly impacts production output and operating margins.
Key features include:
- Optimised finger splice design for superior vulcanised splice strength
- Mechanical fastener capability for added field flexibility
- High rip and tear resistance
- Lightweight carcass construction
- Performance that exceeds many multi-ply belts within the same tension class
The belt will be available in ratings ranging from 220 PIW to 550 PIW, alongside a broad selection of cover compounds tailored to varying operational and environmental requirements.
Efficiency Gains for Industrial Operators
Conveyor systems are critical infrastructure in mining supply chains, directly influencing throughput, maintenance cycles, and cost control. By combining durability with adaptability, VersaFlex aims to reduce downtime and maintenance demands — key considerations for mining operators and industrial asset managers.
The single-ply construction offers operational flexibility while maintaining high tensile strength, enabling mines to optimise belt selection based on specific site conditions without sacrificing performance.
For industrial operators and commodities producers, incremental improvements in uptime can translate into measurable productivity gains, particularly in high-volume bulk material environments.
Strategic Positioning in the Mining Supply Chain
For Continental, the launch reinforces its strategic focus on delivering material-driven solutions that support industrial productivity and long-term partnerships.
“At ContiTech, our vision is to be the first choice for material-driven solutions, providing mutual value creation through innovation, expertise, and long-term collaboration,” Cochran added.
As global mining companies seek to enhance efficiency amid cost pressures and fluctuating commodity markets, technologies that reduce unplanned downtime and extend asset life are increasingly central to capital allocation decisions.
The introduction of VersaFlex positions Continental to capture growing demand for performance-focused conveying solutions in the global mining sector.
