Pronto.ai Launches Tiered Autonomous Haulage Portfolio, Bringing Advanced Automation to Mining

New Pronto AHS VLR 360 Edition Delivers Safety and Productivity Gains Across Diverse Mining Environments

Pronto.ai, Inc, a global leader in autonomous haulage systems (AHS), has unveiled a major expansion of its product lineup, aimed at making mining automation more accessible and effective across a wide range of operations. The company introduced Pronto AHS VLR and Pronto AHS VLR 360, complementing its flagship Vision-Only system and forming what it calls the industry’s first “tiered autonomy architecture” – Pronto Editions. This portfolio is designed to meet the unique physical and economic challenges of every mining site, from small regional quarries to the world’s largest mining operations.

Expanding the Product Line: What’s New?

The newly announced Pronto AHS VLR and VLR 360 editions mark a significant step forward for mining automation. Notably, Pronto’s solutions are OEM-agnostic – meaning they are compatible with equipment from any truck manufacturer, eliminating the need for costly, brand-specific integrations. This flexibility enables mines to retrofit Pronto’s automation technology onto existing fleets, regardless of the original equipment maker.

Pronto’s “tiered” approach allows operators to choose the system that best fits their specific Operational Design Domain (ODD) – a term referring to the particular environment, conditions, and tasks for which an autonomous system is intended. For example, a quarry in Texas has vastly different requirements than a deep-pit copper mine in Chile.

The new VLR editions are described as Fail-Operational systems – meaning they are engineered to keep functioning even if one component fails, helping maintain production and safety in challenging conditions such as heavy dust or fog.

Operational Milestones and Real-World Impact

Pronto’s advancements follow a notable achievement at Heidelberg Materials’ Lake Bridgeport quarry, where its Vision-Only AHS moved over 2 million tons of material in a mixed-fleet environment in less than eight months – an accomplishment that highlights the system’s reliability and efficiency.

In early deployments of the Pronto AHS VLR 360, mines have reported substantial improvements in safety and productivity. For instance, at a major copper mine in South America, the introduction of VLR 360 led to a 20% reduction in downtime during periods of heavy fog, thanks to its advanced sensor suite that ensures vehicles continue operating safely even when visibility is near zero. This has translated into increased material throughput and improved worker safety, underscoring the tangible benefits of Pronto’s technology.

Executive Insights: The Value of a Tailored Approach

“Autonomy is not a one-size-fits-all proposition,” said Anthony Levandowski, CEO of Pronto. “The physics of stopping a 100-ton truck in a Texas quarry are radically different from stopping a 400-ton hauler in a Chilean blizzard. We proved that Vision is the killer app for quarries, delivering the lowest total cost of ownership in the industry. Now, with VLR and VLR 360, we are bringing that same ‘AI-First’ intelligence to the world’s most challenging mining operations, fortified with the active sensing required to guarantee uptime in zero-visibility conditions.”

Levandowski also emphasised the company’s pragmatic approach to sensor technology: “With the launch of Pronto Editions, we are declaring the end of the ‘sensor wars’. We don’t use LiDAR because we can’t do Vision; we use LiDAR where it’s the right physics to solve specific customer problems.”

Portfolio Details: Accessible Automation for Every Site

  • Pronto AHS Vision: Designed as the industry’s most affordable and rapidly deployable automation solution, this edition uses advanced HDR cameras and an AI-first approach. Its “Zero-Entry” barrier makes it ideal for quarries and aggregate producers looking for simple retrofits and significant labour savings.
  • Pronto AHS VLR (Vision + LiDAR + Radar): Tailored for large-scale mining operations, this version combines camera-based perception with precise LiDAR mapping and radar that can “see” through dust and adverse weather. As a Fail-Operational system, it keeps trucks moving even if visibility drops or a sensor fails.
  • Pronto AHS VLR 360: The ultimate in safety and compliance, this edition features a complete 360-degree sensor array that monitors the entire vehicle perimeter. This capability enables complex manoeuvring in busy, mixed-traffic zones and supports the largest haul trucks in the industry’s most demanding environments.

Deployment and Compatibility: Ready for Any Fleet

The first production deployments of Pronto AHS VLR 360 are already underway. Consistent with Pronto’s OEM-agnostic design, the system can be retrofitted onto any haul truck platform, including the massive Komatsu 980 and Caterpillar 798 models. This adaptability gives operators the freedom to choose the right solution, regardless of their current equipment lineup.

Conclusion: A Leading Force in Mining Automation

Pronto.ai’s tiered AHS portfolio represents a significant leap forward in making mining automation accessible, adaptable, and effective for operations of any size. By offering clear explanations of technical terms, demonstrating quantifiable real-world benefits, and featuring direct executive insights, the company is building both credibility and customer trust. To further strengthen its industry leadership, Pronto.ai is encouraged to continue sharing executive perspectives and customer testimonials in future communications, highlighting the human stories behind technological innovation.
